100,000 floweres!

Today,we tested methods to put cherry blossom petals on the branch.
The blossoms, printed in six shades of white and depicting six different shape of bloom, are printed on a translucent paper called gampi and are applied with glue dots. Ayomi and crew spent the day experimenting with different application techniques of the square sheets of blossom – random and naturalistic, gridded and heavily layered, loosely gridded and side by side - all had their own appeal but the final choice of a loose grid side by side seems best for having multiple hands assist with the project and is also most closely related to the gridded surface affect of her previous installations. The square papers demand a grid. The project, although initially seeming to be so different, is still Ayomi. (NIU designer emeritus Andrew Byrom might point out that Ayomi was possibly influenced by the “honest” white ceiling tile in our otherwise beautiful gallery).
